Thanks to Covion Solutions for partnering with The University of Texas at Austin and providing Varnish Mitigation services on the elevator oil at McDonald Observatory. This process treats the oil to suspend the varnish in solution making it removable by filtration. When the oil is clean they refortified the oil with antioxidants and anti-wear ingredients. This process gives us a clean system with a fluid that keeps the varnish in suspension instead of letting it deposit on the surfaces of the piston, valve, and pump unit.
